about

Apparently we are not supposed to be able to remember much about the 1960s if we lived through that drug crazed decade. Here, nevertheless, are some memories!

lyrics

Was in the spring of 65, when we saw Bob Dylan live
Living in Flat 4, crazy times for sure
We saw the dawn in at All Hallows, Medway, muddy in the shallows
But all I really wanted to do was to spend time close to you

Some whiskey some tokes, proper beardy hippy folks
We had a filthy kitchen sink, no clean glass for a drink
I wished you were my lover at the time, like some zany Janie Valentine
Cos all I really wanted to do was to spend time close to you

Up at sparrow’s fart, I had to make an early start,
And had a 40 minute drive on my Matchless motor bike
Time at the college was well spent, I learned what a lot of things meant.
But all I really wanted to do was to spend time close to you

It was all such a long time ago when life was more gentle and slow
Now my joints are beginning to creak, can’t remember what I did last week
Now I’m just some old timer from the days of the Morris Minor
Some memories stay clear as a bell, do you ever think of me as well?

Roger and me, and the blues got a little jazzy
We thought we’d arrived with our demo 45
Yeah we were doing all right, occasional folk clubs at night
But all I really wanted to do was to spend time close to you

Weekends were lazy, memories now are hazy
Good friends were made relaxing in the shade
But babe, you were the crazy vision that kept me hopelessly imprisoned
Cos all I really wanted to do was to spend time close to you
Sunrise at All Hallows, Medway muddy in the shallows
Cos all I really wanted to do was to spend time close to you
Getting close to you Babe, down at All Hallows
